The Corporation of Massey Hall & Roy Thomson Hall is a charitable non-profit organization that owns and operates two of Canada's most iconic concert halls. Massey Hall is in the final stages of its most extensive renovation to date, which includes a revitalized auditorium, improved amenities for both artists and patrons. Additionally, it will soon introduce new performance venues as part of the Allied Music Centre, starting with the TD Music Hall, which opened its doors in February 2023. Roy Thomson Hall serves as the home to the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, welcomes the Toronto International Film Festival’s red carpet gala premieres, and plays host to a dynamic array of cultural events throughout the year. The Corporation is actively engaged in Artist Development and Education & Community Outreach initiatives as an investment in the next generation of artists and audiences.

Summary
As a valuable member of the Security Services team, you will be part of the Operations team, managing and delivering security services for all events, people, and assets. Your leadership and dedication to teamwork will contribute to the safety and security of the venues and patron support. This position will manage the event security team (contracted) for all concerts and events within the venues.


Job Duties

  • Ensure the security and safety of all property, patrons, visitors, and employees
  • Work collaboratively with Security Management team to ensure the consistent, effective, and efficient provision of building and event security services across all the venues operated by the Corporation
  • Operate as a member of the Emergency Response Team for both Fire and Emergency situations
  • Investigate and report on occurrences of incidents, complaints, criminal activity, and crisis situations involving building, property, patrons, clients, artists, and staff
  • Oversee the scheduling and deployments of security staff for events
  • Provide event briefings to ensure all staff are knowledgeable about the security plan and details of the specific event
  • Lead and provide ongoing training to security staff during events at our venues, providing coaching to contracted security staff and feedback to contractor management on the performance of their staff
  • Liaise with third party contractors (including but not limited to paid duty officers and emergency personnel)
  • Ensure effective reporting and follow up of all incidents occurring with the building and/or property and addressing complaints from patrons, artists, clients, and staff as required
  • Perform regular patrols and safety inspections, reporting of fire hazards, health & safety hazards
  • In consultation with the Manager, Security & Life Safety will contribute to the Corporation’s Risk Assessment process. For assigned events ensuring post event notes are logged and maintained
  • Provide estimates & complete settlements in consultation with the Manager, Security and Life Safety
  • Continually monitor operational procedures and recommendations for change to the Manager, Security & Life Safety
  • Respond to and monitor alarms as required – including 24/7 coverage of venues operated by the Corporation
  • Other duties as directed by the Manager, Security & Life Safety

Requirements

  • Post-secondary education in law enforcement combined with relevant security experience preferably in the entertainment sector
  • 3 years’ plus of security experience in a supervisory and/or managerial role
  • Experience providing work direction, leading, coaching and/or training staff
  • Computer knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
  • Experience with and ability to work with and learn security related technologies (e.g., access control systems, CCTV, motion, and door alarms)
  • Ability to effectively work with others in critical stress or emergency situations fire alarms, building evacuations, first aid, patron ejections, supporting emergency personnel,)
  • Advanced customer service skills, with the ability to communicate effectively at all organizational levels and work effectively with colleagues, City staff, internal and external clients, agencies, and the public
  • Highly developed conflict resolution, negotiation, and problem- solving skills
  • High level of confidentiality when handling client, staff, and patron information
  • Proven ability to listen, understand and communicate effectively
  • Outgoing, organized, and self-motivated with the ability to lead a positive work environment
  • Shown ability to perform well under pressure; manage multiple priorities at a time
  • Work in compliance with the provisions of the Occupational Health & Safety Act
  • Work in compliance with AGCO regulations
  • Must be available to work evenings and weekends and be on call as required
  • Valid First Aid and C.P.R. certificates
  • Smart Serve Certification required
  • Valid Ontario Security License

Working Conditions

  • Prolonged periods of standing and walking throughout shift
  • Frequent ascending and descending stairwells
  • Work outside in all weather conditions
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule that includes early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays
  • Exposure to loud noise levels
