Hear Our First Lyrics And Legacies Song By The Late Doug Roberton

We’re sharing our first song from the Lyrics and Legacies program with you -- an initiative developed in partnership with Amica Senior Lifestyles. Doug Roberton worked with songwriter Murray Foster earlier this year to compose his own Ode to Canada. He asked for it to be acapella, and after writing it, he was frequently heard around the halls of his Amica residence, singing it to anyone who would listen. When he went into palliative care this spring, one of the things he most wanted with him was the completed recording of his song, a wish we were happily able to fulfil and now share with you. This song maps his journeys across the world and everlasting love for Canada and home.

We’re so incredibly grateful to him and his family for being part of this initiative and his story reminds us of how difficult the past year and a half have been for everyone, but in particular for seniors.

Ashley Sumler, Manager of Life Enrichment from Amica shared these words “The Lyrics and Legacies partnership has been a wonderful opportunity for our residents to uniquely express their important life experiences through song. The process of writing and creating the songs allowed our residents and their family members to build special relationships with the artists from Roy Thomson Hall during a time when many people were struggling to make connections. It’s incredible to see the joy that these songs have brought to residents, families and artists alike.”

As a pilot project, we’ll be looking at ways to continue this program. If you want to learn more about how to get involved in making Lyrics and Legacies a staple program, contact us at supporters@mh-rth.com.
